Adopt-A-Cat

Marble Springs cats (Boots, Cinnamon, and our newest arrival, Panther) have been a feature at Marble Springs for 8 years. They earn their keep by taking care of rodents and helping with tours (often leading the way for our visitors). They enjoy laying on the Trading Post roof, exploring the property, any attention from visitors and staff, and finding new hiding spots under the buildings for naptime.

Charge of taking care of the cats falls to the Governor John Sevier Memorial Association. The Governor John Sevier Memorial Association (GJSMA) is a non-profit, educational organization that operates and maintains the Marble Springs State Historic Site in Knox County, Tennessee. The Association provides a historically responsible interpretation of the life and times of Governor John Sevier for primary and secondary school groups, community organizations, business groups, individual families, and visitors from outside the local area.

Marble Springs is developing a symbolic adoption to help raise funds for the continued care of the resident cats that have made their home here for so many years. This symbolic adoption program provides funding that goes toward the care for Boots, Cinnamon, and Panther. By becoming a patron, you can help provide a year of care for any of the site cats. The adoptions help to ensure the cats continue to receive food, medical care through the University of Tennessee Veterinary School community practice program, and a happy environment through the preservation of Marble Springs, their home.

The following criteria apply for a symbolic adoption:

  • Adoptions are tax-deductible.

  • Adoptions last for one year and are renewable.

  • Due to their popularity, the cats may be subject to concurrent adoptions.

  • No ownership rights are transferred.

  • There is a $700 discretionary cap for emergencies, with remaining funds going towards the preservation of Marble Springs, their home.
